Weekly Progress Report: #14

Overview

This week has been a little haphazard as far as training goes. I am happy to report that I did manage to play three games this week, so yay for that! I haven’t been as diligent as far as studying books, but that will come in due time. My main focus has been drilling tsuemgo for my “instinctive tsumego reading” ability. More to come on this idea next Wednesday!

Weekly Progress Report: #13

Overview

After much thought, I’ve decided to bring back weekly progress reports since they provide some insight into what I’ve been up to. And while I used to use the Friday Go Forward series format in order to provide updates, that proved to be difficult since Friday is often very hectic and a lot can happen between Friday and Saturday. So these will now be released on Sunday for more comprehensive coverage of last week.

No More Correspondence Go for Me

Correspondence go and I have always had a rollercoaster of a relationship. There were times I loved it. I mean, I could play multiple games at once and would eagerly await getting a move back from an opponent. And then there were the polar opposites when I absolutely hated it and would end up losing by time on numerous games because I would keep procrastinating my own move.

Off In Development World...

As some of you are aware, I’ve gone off the deep end into the software development world. I’ll be taking a longer sabbatical than anticipated; but you’ll still be able to catch me for a game of go or discussion on things you can do to progress! So feel free to email me whenever and draw me out to a game on KGS whenever, because I could sure use the distraction.

Meanwhile, best of luck to everyone on their games and their progress. I definitely look forward to seeing how much everyone has grown by the time I come back! Ganbatte!

P.S. If you’d like to keep up with what I’m up to, I’ve created a new Twitter devoted to my development and UX exploits. Until then everyone!

Encountering My First Chess Advocate

Today at work I was talking to my co-worker and was scoffed at when he found out I played go.

“Who plays go?!” he exclaimed.

I tried to then jump into a mini-speech on its complexity; but he shut me down pretty quickly by dismissing me and saying that chess was much more complex and the only reason why go is as “mysterious” as it seems to be is because it essentially hasn’t had the same exposure here in the Western world. And given enough time, it would be clear that chess was clearly the harder game.

Hello Again with GoKibitz

Hey everyone. Just wanted to let you know I’m still alive and well. Been getting into some really interesting projects these past few weeks and have been really pondering what I can do with blogging again since I miss doing it. And as someone who hates it when a regular blogger just drops out of the blogosphere, you can rest assured that I won’t ever just leave the blog hanging in the event I need to close up shop for awhile.
